Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs)

This presentation will address how our present system of health care has demonstrated significant variation in quality and cost of health care among the frail older adults. With a better understanding of this variation in health care, learners will appreciate why the development of accountable care organizations (ACOs) is rapidly growing across the USA and how ACOs will impact post-acute/long-term care in the nursing home. More importantly, participants will learn how health care value will be the gold standard for attracting residents to nursing homes for PA/LTC.

Speaker:

J. Kenneth Brubaker, MD, CMD

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize how failures in our present health care system are the driving forces moving us to a new system of care, namely ACOs.
  • Interpret how ACOs will play a major role in changing post-acute care in our communities.
  • Discuss the additional roles and responsibilities of medical directors in preparation for collaborative relationships with ACOs.
