Society Receives ACCME Re-Accreditation with Commendation

During its July 2016 meeting, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) awarded AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine ACCME Re-Accreditation with Commendation for the next six years, until July 2022, as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians. The Accreditation with Commendation decision was based on a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to high accreditation standards. According to the ACCME, only some 21% of all ACCME-accredited medical education providers received Accreditation with Commendation.

Accreditation with Commendation is awarded to organizations that demonstrate compliance in all criteria and accreditation policies. ACCME commended the Society for meeting all accreditation requirements, and for demonstrating that it is a learning organization and a change agent for physicians and the patients it serves. In addition, the Society demonstrates an engagement with its environment in support of physician learning and change that is a part of a system for quality improvement.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the dedicated volunteers and expert staff who devote so much of their time and energy to making our educational offerings so relevant, timely and hard-hitting,” said Society Executive Director Christopher E. Laxton, CAE, of this commendation. “We know our members and stakeholders place a high value on this; it’s very nice to get this external validation as well.”

ACCME‘s mission is the identification, development, and promotion of quality standards for continuing medical education (CME), used by physicians in maintaining competence, and incorporating new knowledge to improve the quality of medical care for patients and their communities. The ACCME fulfills its mission through a voluntary, self-regulated system for accrediting CME providers, and a peer-review process responsive to changes in medical education and the health care delivery system.
