Antimicrobial stewardship is a nationwide, imperative initiative that seeks to educate prescribers and administrators about the appropriate use of antimicrobials to curb the growing rate of bacterial resistance. Stewardship is of utmost importance due to increasing bacterial resistance, widespread inappropriate use of antibiotics. This program will explain the core components of stewardship for a clear and concise layout for implementation in your practice. The importance of antimicrobial stewardship will be discussed, along with common disease entities and real case examples.

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Goldstein is a board certified infectious disease consultant and certified wound specialist. He graduated medical school at SUNY-Downstate College of Medicine in 2004, and completed internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in NY. Since completing fellowship, he has worked at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, formerly Sound Shore Medical Center, in New Rochelle, NY. There, he is involved in inpatient and outpatient infectious disease consultations, including two skilled nursing facilities. In addition to teaching, he is Chair of the hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, co-Chair of the hospital antimicrobial stewardship program, Chair of the Schaffer Extended Care Center infection control committee, wound care consultant at Schaffer and the hospital, and runs the antimicrobial stewardship program at Schaffer.
