Fundamentals of Infection Control in the Nursing Home

This interactive session will introduce medical directors to infection surveillance in the nursing home setting. Participants will explore various infection control criteria and be able to differentiate between surveillance criteria and minimal criteria for antimicrobial use. The presenter will discuss how to track and respond to common infections as well as how to identify and respond to less common, but particularly challenging, disease outbreaks. The session will employ a variety of learning formats including short didactic sessions, case-based learning, small group work, and panel discussion.
