Session Year:
2016
authors:
Sabine von Preyss-Friedman, MD, CMD; Robert Kaplan, MD, CMD

One of the most difficult aspects of being a medical director is the supervision and engagement of the medical staff at the skilled nursing facility. The challenges can range from influencing the most basic behavior, like visiting patients on time to more complex aspects of supervision such as decreases in unnecessary variances in care. In this session, experienced certified medical directors and members of the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM) will explore the responsibilities and opportunities the medical director has in influencing the delivery of medical care. We will cover various strategies to facilitate state of the art medical care such as bylaws, recruitment strategies, education, the quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) process as well as transparency in outcomes and care delivery.
