We will discuss available assessment tools and risk stratification methods, which are especially important for cognitively impaired individuals. We will reveal and review results from nationwide surveys of nursing homes about their current practices and policies regarding these issues. We will suggest ways to balance autonomy and safety in the nursing home environment to reduce liability.
