Pressure Ulcers: Staging, Prevention, Treatment, and Managing Quality Initiatives

This session will present a current overview of pressure ulcer care in the elderly across the continuum of care. The current nomenclature will be reviewed. Prevention and treatment modalities (offloading, dressings, surfaces) will be proposed particular to the type, location, and setting of the pressure injury. Contrasting management practices of pressure injuries will differ depending on the setting of the resident and the available expertise. For those involved in medical direction, analysis of pressure ulcer data and design of quality initiatives will be reviewed.
