The Spectrum of Mood Disorders in Long-Term Care: Current Diagnostic and Treatment Approaches
This session will present the significant issues involved with mood disorders in long-term care. We will discuss the prevalence, impact, differential diagnosis and the diagnostic pearls of mood disorders in late-life. There will be a short description relative to the importance of incorporating screening tools in your treatment plan and the practical implications of using a rating scale. We will include a short review of the most commonly used rating scales in mood disorders. A brief review of the current treatment modalities including the neuromodulatory techniques which include mainly ECT (Electro-Convulsive Therapy), TMS (Trancranial Magnetic Stimulation), and VNS (Vagal Nerve Stimulation) will be presented.
