PALTC24 is coming! March 9-11 is only a few months away. While there are dozens of reasons to come to San Antonio for the premier national PALTC conference, here are the top five:

  1. A comprehensive, cutting-edge educational program. “We’re kicking off a whole new format, with the meeting starting on a Saturday and ending on Monday,” said Annual Conference Program Planning Subcommittee Chair Verna Sellers, MD, MPH, CMD. “The conference is shorter, but we have a power-packed agenda.” For example, there will be sessions on substance abuse in long-term care, an issue that is a growing priority, as well as programs addressing cannabis use and updates on infection prevention and control. Watch for in-depth workshops throughout the conference, including a new interactive program called The Five Senses, scheduled for day one of the conference. Dr. Sellers said, “Often in long-term care, as people age, there are issues related to the eyes, ears, eating/chewing, and sense of smell.” This session will focus on these and other issues, how clinicians can make diagnoses, and how the medical director can connect patients with specialists for treatment.
  2. Unique and novel networking opportunities. “When you’re at an AMDA conference, you get the chance to meet a wide range of people as well as AMDA leaders and an array of national experts. Everyone is so welcoming and down-to-earth,” Dr. Sellers noted. These interactions not only lead to new friendships and contacts, they can have a career-shaping impact. For instance, a conversation Dr. Sellers had at one of her early conferences led her to join the Society’s Clinical Practice Committee. “This was the event that really got me involved in AMDA and helped me grow as a team leader and practitioner,” she observed. Join us for an exciting new networking opportunity, the PALTC24 Mixer: Tastes of San Antonio, set for 7:30 PM on Sunday, March 10. This ticketed event offers some of the best food this unique Texas city offers. You’ll enjoy music, friends, and fun in a casual, festive atmosphere.
  3. Cutting-edge exhibits. The learning doesn’t stop at the meeting room door. While our exhibits offer the latest and most valuable products, every exhibitor has something new to showcase. Get exclusive insights into the latest developments and smartest ways of working. You’ll also get a sneak peek into what’s coming next in our industry, including cutting-edge tools and technology. “Our exhibitors know the challenges you face every day. They’re here to show you products and services specifically designed to solve your unique challenges in patient care and practice management,” said Dr. Sellers. Interact with exhibitors and experience everything from the latest medical devices to new software.
  4. The sights, sounds, and fun of San Antonio. “The city is amazing! I love the River Walk and the restaurants,” Dr. Sellers said. Truly, the River Walk is the jewel of San Antonio, with walkways winding around the San Antonio River and dotted by various restaurants and shops. You can stroll, grab a bite, or shop. If you prefer, you can take a guided tour or dinner cruise on a river barge. Elsewhere, you can tour the Alamo, one of the most significant historical sites in the country. There also is the Pearl District and Farmers Market for shopping and sampling the city’s best goods. For relaxation, try the Japanese Tea Garden and the Jingu House restaurant. “It’s important to educate ourselves, but we also need to practice self-care. This is a great place to plan a pre- or post-meeting getaway or fun family trip,” Dr. Sellers noted.
  5. Virtual learning opportunities. “There is no substitute for meeting your friends and colleagues face-to-face and interacting in real-time, but we understand that circumstances sometimes make it impossible to travel to the conference,” said Dr. Sellers. That’s why AMDA created a Virtual Learning Track. Registration for virtual participation in the program includes three live-streamed General Sessions, nine live-streamed education sessions, access to all recorded conference sessions (through March 31, 2024), a virtual scientific poster wall, an online exhibitor directory, CME/MOC/CMD/CMD management credits, and the freedom to change your mind and join us in San Antonio with no change fee.

There is so much to look forward to at this conference, and it’s more important than ever. To navigate the complex PALTC system and stay on top of changes and innovations, we need specific knowledge and skills. AMDA is the only organization that provides the specialized information we need. At the annual conference, we learn how to manage the systems, lead our teams, and put our clinical knowledge to work to provide excellent patient care—a goal we all share. - Dr. Sellers

Registration is now open, and you can enjoy special Early Bird rates until January 4, 2024. Get more information and register on the conference website.
