Columbia, MD – AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine is pleased to announce that Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP, and Paul Katz, MD, CMD, have been named co-editors-in-chief (EIC) of JAMDA, the Society’s monthly medical journal. They will officially be taking over with the January 2023 issue. Both are long-time Society members who have held a variety of leadership positions and have long medical publication experience.

Dr. Resnick is a professor in the Department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, co-directs the Biology and Behavior Across the Lifespan Research Center of Excellence, holds the Sonya Ziporkin Gershowitz Chair in Gerontology, and does clinical work at Roland Park Place. Dr. Katz is professor and chair of the Department of Geriatrics at Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine. Before coming to FSU in May 2015, he was vice president of medical services at the Baycrest Health Centre and professor of medicine at the University of Toronto.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Resnick and Dr. Katz have agreed to take over at the helm of JAMDA. Our members depend on the journal for the latest post-acute and long-term care research and clinical insights, and it will be in incredibly good hands with our new co-EICs,” said Christopher E. Laxton, CAE, the Society’s executive director. “In addition, we are most grateful to retiring co-EICs Drs. Phil Sloane and Sheryl Zimmerman for their outstanding service to JAMDA and the Society over the past five years.”

“I am honored to serve as co-editor-in-chief of JAMDA along with Dr. Katz,” Dr. Resnick said. “My experience as editor of Geriatric Nursing will be extremely helpful in this position; I’m looking forward to this new challenge.”

“I have been involved with JAMDA for quite some time and am excited to take this journey together with Dr. Resnick,” Dr. Katz noted. “We’ve already started working with Drs. Sloane and Zimmerman and I am confident that it will be a smooth transition.”
